Gene Defcon is the Pacific Northwest's one-man party band with a mission to dance his mess-around and provoke yours. This Texan transplant is barely able to contain his enthusiasm as he speeds through 47 songs in oversexed overdrive.
Defcon's hilarious second full-length is a party-crashed, whiplashed rock romp that proves a boy's best friend should be his drum machine. Defcon moves and grooves across the dance floor as if possessed by a ragtag, ragamuffin gang of Oompa Loompas on speed. Yet somehow -- despite himself -- Defcon's loony tunes rarely come off as novelty.
Sure, "Come Party With Me 2000" is 72 minutes of sing-along slapstick (sample lyric: "Baby, hallelujah! You know I wanna do ya!"), but it's so ridiculously, exuberantly catchy that it never feels like a gag.
