Review - Big Thinkin'

Artist: Dallas Wayne

I guess if Robbie Fulks wants to do an album with you, and he's written the songs and lined up the players, you'd be fool to say no. And as Dallas Wayne says in the liner notes, he's no fool. Fulks has one of the sharpest tongues and best songwriting ears in all of alt-country, and he pairs them with Wayne's no-nonsense gruff baritone on "Big Thinkin'."

The result is a jovial and irreverent country album of good-natured honky-tonk tunes that consistently rise above, and take shots at, the contemporary country pumped out of Nashville. Up-tempo rockers like "She'll Go Down (in Honky Tonk History)" send up common Nashville clichés, while the hilarious "If That's Country" lampoons all the MOR pop posing as authentic country today.
