Review - A

Artist: Pan Sonic

After being ordered by Japanese electronic giant Panasonic to change their name, Pan Sonic removed the "a" and in the process gained a clever album title. The music inside A, however, is another story.

This isn't conventional music -- electronic or otherwise -- by any means. Various tones, and electrical clickings and whirrings are cut up into rhythmic patterns, but too often the tracks sound sterile. Occasionally, the subtle patterns of clicks become hypnotic, but such an effect could also be achieved by listening to a ceiling fan. In what context would A sound good? Mixed by a DJ into a track with beats and bass lines, allowing the grayish mood of Pan Sonic to texturize the space.
