If you’re not familiar with Case Work, it’s likely you’ve encountered their frontman, Chandler Strang, elsewhere in gushworthy projects like Saskatchewan and Dromes. The Soundcloud crowd is already as hip to Strang’s newest band as we are (our live music columnist Bao Le-Huu enthusiastically identified them as “Orlando’s next indie contender”). So, it was a natural choice to bring Case Work to North Avenue Studios for a live recording session to lay down two of their new songs, “Dancing Shadows” and “Slow Down,” for our video series on Off the Avenue. Both videos are online now, as well as a profile of this melody-prone pop act, which also includes Kyle Harms, Greyson Charnock and Hogan Birney. Also, heads up: Case Work performs Thursday with Day Joy and Maximino at Will’s Pub (July 24).

Warped Tour visits Central Florida Fairgrounds this week (July 27), shedding some Sunshine State light on established Florida bands like Less Than Jake (Gainesville) and Yellowcard (Jacksonville). There’s even some Orlando love, as outrageous local ska band Beebs and Her Money Makers return to the Tour after a successful 2013 appearance. In addition to performing, you can catch Beebs and a Money Maker at the Band Happy tent, where the colorful vocalist and her drummer, Paul Brisske, will be giving private lessons to aspiring musicians (along with members of Bayside, Mayday Parade and more). If you’re looking for a BAHMM primer before Warped Tour, check out their YouTube channel, where they’ve got original music videos, a new web TV show and a cover of TLC’s “Waterfalls,” which is featured on their 2014 release, Würst Album Ever.
Back in March, we posted in our Orlando Music News blog about a short documentary on local arts venue Timucua White House. This week, filmmaker Steve Radley delivered great news: The film will be featured at the Montreal World Film Festival, Canada’s oldest international film festival. It’s an extra nod that Timucua’s visionary owner, Benoit Glazer (the Cirque du Soleil La Nouba conductor, musician and arts aficionado who has assuredly built the loveliest space for intimate, intellectual concerts in our city in his big white house), is originally from Montreal. Congratulations are definitely in order, but there’s more. The latest news lilting from the venue is that certain concerts will be live-streamed. Here’s hoping endlessly tasteful local concert organizers the Civic Minded 5 take full advantage of that.
One last thing. From 2010-2013, Orlando Weekly published music recommendations from local musicians in a series called Rotation.
