You can catch local songwriter Marc With a C performing live at the Geek Easy's open mic night pretty frequently, but for those who wish to put his quirky pop distillation of brash geekery and shy-guy wisdom (and who wholeheartedly agree with his disdain for Glee) on repeat, his latest release is all that and more. Called The Real Live Sound of Marc with a C, it's set to come out June 10, and it's a double album of his biggest songs (and signature anecdotal tangents that make his shows so charming) recorded live at Sleeping Moon Cafe in Winter Park.

On the back of the album, Marc pens a brief note to fans explaining his rationale for this release, with the crux of it being that the live atmosphere (with its chaotic imperfections) adds a texture to his lo-fi music that he prefers to studio recordings. Once you put the first side on, you're taken through what Marc can remember about his personal history, adding a folk element as he recalls stress dreams and how he was bullied into becoming a music fan ("Who needs real friends when you can obsess over bands?" he sings on "Music Geek").

The audience is extremely present, between collective "awwws" over sweet dedications to his wife and raging approval during "Dickpuncher III: The Dickening." My only complaint is that he lumps record stores in with how obsolete bookstores have become (Park Ave CDs would disagree on this point, celebrating 30 years) in the Amazon age (although this is mainly to introduce his now-aimless beef with Borders).

It's extremely charismatic and as usual, catchy as hell. It'll be released on CD and as a digital download, but if you're weighing your options on which format to get, the vinyl offering has two bonus tracks from the night's encore that won't be included elsewhere. While I don't see an official album release party in my calendar just yet, there is a Marc With a C/Claire and the Potatoes/Milk Carton Superstars show creeping up on June 28 at Copper Rocket (a venue I adore but rarely see shows there lately - what's up with that?). (RSVP) And for those who aren't already familiar with his music, allow him to introduce himself:
