A high-speed crash on I-4 yesterday involved a local record label founder and movie producer, David Blair McKenna, who according to an article in the Sentinel, was driving at speeds greater than 100 mph when he hit a box truck from behind and was killed. McKenna produced the indie film Renee, which was the featured film at last year's Florida Film Festival and told the story of how the charity To Write Love On Her Arms came to be. McKenna is also a character in the film, as it was his generosity toward main character Renee Yohe that began the journey that led to her recovery from depression and drug abuse. You may also have known McKenna as the founder of Bonded Records, the Orlando label that includes Renee & the Translators and Between the Trees. Investigators are still looking into the crash, but this loss is already being mourned by the arts community.
