Live music choices abound this Saturday (April 23)

This Saturday night is like an endless salad bar for Orlando area music lovers – and that's not even counting the packed show schedule of the FMF and our own selections in this week's issue – here are five of the more diverse offerings. If you squeeze in two or even three of these, you are a hero. We're listing them below by times to show you, however, that it is feasible to carry out your day like a sonic pub crawl.

Orlando Overdrive, Backbooth, 4 p.m.
Start at the Backbooth downtown to scope out this showcase of so-called "nerd music" from Ongaku Overdrive. The eight-strong lineup veers from the hip-hop of EyeQ to the chiptune weirdness of Boy Without Batteries, and and several points in between. In between acts, you can step outside to take a listen to …

Orlando Gay Chorus, Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, 5 p.m.
It's free, and it's outdoors right before that time of the year where outdoors on a Saturday equals the heat of a million blazing suns, so you should probably take advantage. Plus it's a damn good chorus. Next up is …

Black Dahlia Murder, the Social, 7 p.m.
They've got one of the more haunting band names, and attempt to live up to that gory nomenclature with a searing blend of new-death metal. They're very adept at what they do, but if you like your rock a little more radio and nostalgic, brave the traffic gridlock to Lake Buena Vista …

Sister Hazel, the House of Blues, 7:30 p.m.
The House of Blues is hosting '90s radio-rock ensemble Sister Hazel. At some point, odds are that their big hit "All for You," soundtracked a prom or a wedding reception or a graduation or some other milestone event for either you or an older relative.

Magrudergrind, Will's Pub, 8 p.m.
If you, the discerning music fan, somehow find yourself thinking, "Well, the problem with the Black Dahlia Murder is that they're really not over the top chaotic enough for me," well, buddy, you're in luck because Magrudergrind is state of the art powerviolence, aka metal tossed into a high-speed blender.

The only way you lose is by staying at home.
