The usual rules about the diminishing returns of “classic bands” reuniting don’t apply when it comes to gothic music legend Peter Murphy. The man is simply born to perform; we’ve seen him solo a couple of times and as part of the 1998 Bauhaus “Gotham” reunion tour and he goes fucking hard and gives the people all the gloom and glam and dramatic gestures that they want. And on the 40th anniversary of his influential band Bauhaus’ first album, the people want it all. And they’ll pretty much get it. The setlist is promised to be In the Flat Field from start to finish plus a heavy
dose of classic Bauhaus singles (so you will hear “Bela Lugosi’s Dead”) and – as the final touch – dark-pop magus David J (Bauhaus/Love and Rockets) is joining in on this trek. The songs still sound as fresh as they did in the ’70s, Murphy’s voice is evergreen and sepulchral at the same time; it would be a kick in the eye to miss this.
