Since I've come on as music editor for the Weekly, you might've noticed I have a penchant for shows that spring up in unconventional venues. Bar-BQ-Bar is one of my favorite places for this to recur (sitting just ahead of Wally's and Colonial Lanes), and tonight's FREE show, Tuesday, Aug. 26, featuring Golden Pelicans and False Punk at 10 p.m. will likely be the last one I'll see at what remains of the bar. (RSVP) (Did you see these ghostly photos on Facebook of when they took the trailer down?)
It's always a little squishy in that space between the band, the booths and the bar, but that's what fuels the audience, so expect a thick crowd to the bar as the countdown to Bar-BQ-Bar's last day (Friday, Aug. 29) draws close to the finish this week. We're posting an oral history of the bar' that will be online and on stands tomorrow, so check back at the peak of your nostalgia to toast to the end of an era.
