Ain’t nothin’ cool or easy about losing a member of the music scene. Last summer, the Orlando metal community was staggered by the loss of Junior Bruce drummer Brett Tanner to cancer. But after some needed healing time, his band and scene brethren have come together to, not mourn, but celebrate the man right with a 21-ton salute. The tribute show, naturally, will be anchored by a special performance from his band Junior Bruce, whose face-clawing Southern hellfire is worth the price alone. But ensuring complete and glorious destruction in Tanner’s honor is a fearsome lynch mob that includes notable Miami sludge band Shroud Eater, Florida doom predators Hollow Leg, top new Orlando sludge crushers Bog Prophet and Lakeland swamp slashers Tug. So go and bang your head in gratitude and remembrance to someone who lent a bit of greatness to our scene. – Bao Le-Huu
