A quick post about Kurt Cobain

It felt weird letting the day pass without just a short post about Kurt Cobain. Today marks the 20th anniversary of his death. I know I'm not alone in saying that Nirvana had a huge influence on my life. Their music led me down the path to discovering other great bands and music.

Twenty years ago today, I was a 13-year-old kid on a spring break road trip with my mom and grandmother. I was sitting in a hotel room when my uncle told me over the phone about Cobain's death. I had no idea how to process it at the time. It's kind of uncomfortable to have to process celebrity deaths, honestly. People you've never met can be important to you, but it feels strange to be so upset over someone who you weren't individually important to.

There isn't much of a point to this post, as I still don't really know how to process the death of a celebrity except to say, "Oh, fuck," and maybe go back and listen to or watch the things that made me like them in the first place.

With that in mind, here is one of the better live versions of Drain You, from Reading '92:
