The follow-up to one of the least justified successes in recent animation has at least one advantage over its predecessor: Its swipes are either fewer or harder to spot. There's less Chuck Jones and Dumbo biting overall as our prehistoric pals flee a calamitous thaw that threatens to eradicate their entire way of life. The ratio of honest laugh lines to stinkers is pretty respectable, and the addition of Queen Latifah as a mammoth who thinks she's a possum provides a just-sentimental-enough foil for Ray Romano's Manny. When it comes to allegorical value, though, the story is a huge cop-out, raising the subject of global warming only to send our animal heroes rushing toward a "big boat" (read: ark) that's waiting to spirit them to safety. A chance to introduce kids to an all-important issue gets compromised, just so the creationists can enjoy yet more lip service. Phooey.
