🍕Snackwave report: Pizza is more portable when it comes in a cone🍦

Florida Mall's latest brag is its snazzy new Dining Pavilion, but not all of the new-new food experiences are found within those walls. The mall also recently snagged a Kono Pizza kiosk, the first American outpost of an international chain.

James Saliba, the French-American owner of the kiosk, says, “The Original Kono Pizza sets aside the traditional triangle or square-cut slice and offers the Orlando community an ‘out-of-the-box’ pizza experience with our cone-shaped crust filled with fresh, Italian ingredients that can be eaten on-the-go. After decades of devouring countless slices of triangle or square-cut pizza, Orlando is about to experience a progressive new way to enjoy their favorite Italian dish.”

According to their press release, "Kono pizza cones give consumers an on-the-go way to experience their favorite food and experience less of the guilt that comes as a result of satisfying a pizza craving." The portability claim seems pretty obviously true; the claim of guilt-lessening seems like it would take some unpacking. (If you're prone to food-induced guilt, surely you can find a way to feel guilty about needing a cone of pizza while shopping for new Vans or visiting the Genius Bar.) But the cones apparently are lower in calories and fat than traditional pizza: only 250-280 calories each, compared to 450 calories in the average pizza slice.

Not surprisingly, the reason Orlando gets Kono first is our teeming mass of tourists. “Just last year, over 60 million visitors came to Orlando. At the Florida Mall we are positioned near the Orlando International Airport and popular attractions including Universal Orlando Resort, Walt Disney World and SeaWorld Orlando. These popular attractions draw in locals and tourists alike, ensuring that Americans from all over the nation will be able to enjoy our delicious, innovative product," Saliba told us. “Being at the Florida Mall is a great start, and we look forward to introducing our pizza cones to more attractions and destinations throughout Florida.”

It's not all tomatoes and cheese, either; there are five different pizza cones, and also sweet dessert cones. And breakfast cones are coming next month, ensuring that soon Florida Mall visitors can eat every meal on their feet. We got Kono's American menu straight from the source:
