Small but mighty downtown market

at one time a tiny Publix. Now Thornton Park has a small grocery store again in the form of Central City Market (407-849-9779).

Developed by Culinary Concepts, the same folks behind HUE, Central City Market is like an upscale convenience store, a fast place to pick up the odd Boar's Head sandwich, cup of coffee or purple fingerling potatoes. Racks of Mr. Mike's Papaya Salsa and small-batch pistachio oil share aisle space with Coke and ketchup.

The deli section handles prepared items like meat loaf and smoked chicken with leeks salad, all made on site. The far wall is an oasis of Olde Earth Bread Company loaves and fresh-baked buns and muffins. Even with the butcher, baker, wine section and produce department, it's a homey place to nab a food fix.
