Not too long ago, the death knell was sounding for Angel's Diner & Bakery at 304 W. Colonial Drive.
Sales were down, and the rock & roll diner's owners had closed five other locations. Then Greg Plane took over. He hired new chefs, brought back Angel's banquet setup and plans to begin deliveries to downtown offices.
Oh, and he's keeping the diner open 24 hours on Friday and Saturday nights starting March 29. "We're two blocks away from the downtown bars," says Plane, a Brooklyn native who has been in the restaurant business 42 years. "We realized people need some place to eat on weekends."
If you're still in a partying mood after you party, Angel's operates a full-service bar. But it also makes some of the best milkshakes in town. "We're trying to bring Orlando back to Angel's," Plane says. "And bring Angel's back to Orlando."
