New restaurant by Kappo founders will house two different concepts

We first told you about the new restaurant being planned by the founders of Kappo at East End Market back in January, and how it's shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated openings of 2016. Well, this bit of news will only serve to stir your salivary glands.

Lordfer Lalicon — one of the trio of talented culinarians behind the venture (along with Mark Berdin and Jennifer Banagale) — says the new restaurant will comprise not one, but two, separate concepts in one space, both Japanese inspired. Ramen-ya? Soba-ya? Izakaya? Kaiseki? Lalicon wouldn't say, but you know they'll strive for authenticity while sparing us all the pretense.

As far as the location, the restaurant will be in Audubon Park in a space off Winter Park Road. Lalicon wouldn't divulge the exact location, but the Winter Park Beer Company space as well as the former eCigs Source space next to O'Stromboli are available. Just sayin'.

They haven't decided on a name for the restaurant as yet (it's still being referred to as "Project X"), but expect "Kappo" to appear somewhere in the name.

To help fund the new restaurant, a series of pop-up dinners will take place on July 7-10, 14-17, 21-24 and 28-30. Seating times are 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., except on Sundays when they're 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Cost is $130 ($95 on Sundays) and will feature a 13-course omakase chefs' tasting menu. That's right, 13 courses. Ginjo sake pairings can be had for an additional $50. Reservations for pop-up dinners can be made on Kappo's website starting Tuesday, June 28.
