more meals on wheels: upcoming food truck events

Just a quick dispatch from the Tuesday trenches: There are two big food truck festivals happening soon (Sunday and next Tuesday), and a new weekly food truck pod in Maitland starting tonight.

Food Truck Heaven, 5 p.m.-midnight Tuesday, May 3 — We have finally gotten a list of participating trucks at the Plaza Theater's upcoming event, announced early last month. According to the organizers, "Peruvian, Southern BBQ, Jamaican, Mexican, Columbian, Venezuelan, New England-style, and All-American cuisine" will be represented by "Las 4 Estaciones Orlando, CK Jerk Shack, Taco Loco, Jauncho's Grill, Arepas el Cacao, Shipyard, Jazzydog, and Mr. Softee Ice Cream, to name a few." Bring chairs and kids if you have them; there will be a beer garden but also kids' stuff like face painting. And a drum circle. More information here.

The Daily City Food Truck Bazaar #2, 7 p.m.-midnight Sunday, May 1 — A last-minute date change makes this event fall just before the Plaza's, but the two events are different enough that there's no reason not to attend both. After all, you gotta eat every day, right? This second iteration promises to iron out some of the wrinkles of the first one (long lines, food running out), if for no other reason than both vendors and attendees know what to expect. Your old faves are back ("Red Eye BBQ, Korean BBQ Taco Box, CJ Jerk Shack Island BBQ, Big Wheel Provisions Truck, The Yum Yum Cupcake Truck, The Taco Lady, Pupusas, Winter Park Fish Company, The Crooked Spoon, The Treehouse Truck") along with some new faces ("The Traveling Gourmet MAKING ITS ORLANDO DEBUT! The Wing Commander FROM MIAMI!") Best part: no drive down south; this time they'll be trucking in the Fashion Square parking lot. Complete information here.

Lake Lily Food Pod, 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays — Tonight is the debut of a new weekly food truck meetup, this one in Maitland (600 Lake Lily Drive, if you're mapping). Participating trucks are same as the Wednesday-night one behind Firestone: Red Eye BBQ, Yum Yum Cupcake Truck, The Crooked Spoon, Treehouse Truck, Big Wheel Provisions Truck and Korean BBQ Taco Box. Info on the Lake Lily pod here and the downtown pod here.

Also, a caveat: Details on some of these events have been flexible, to say the least, so please keep an eye on the event organizers' pages.
