Everyone knows the clichés about French restaurants: too expensive, too fattening, too intimidating. But Le Provence is challenging those notions with a new fixed-price lunch menu on weekdays. Starting at $12.95, it includes appetizer, entree and dessert.
Some of the selections are healthy enough to earn any personal trainer's stamp of approval, such as the "salad Nicoise" (French field greens accented with tuna and tomatoes), "poisson du jour" (grilled fish of the day) and "salade de fruits frais" (fresh fruit salad). But if you're feeling decadent, try the pan-seared fillet of salmon with cream sauce or the irretrievably fabulous "oeuf a la neige au caramel," also known as the "floating island." This is an iceberg-shaped poached meringue, topped with toasted almonds and caramel sauce, everything floating in a pool of crème anglaise.
