Fire up the saganaki (everybody's favorite oozy, melty, liquor-soaked flaming cheese appetizer) at Greek Fest 2010, hosted by Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Maitland Friday through Sunday. For a mere $3 at the door, you can get a slice of culture with that shot of ouzo: traditional music and Greek dance showcases by the Little Aegeans and the Hellenic Dance Troupe. Dance the day away to a high-energy bouzouki band to speed up your metabolism and make room for another gyro.
Baklava won't be the only sweetmeat offered at Greek Fest. Twelve different desserts are promised at the event, including creamy, milky, crunchy galaktoboureko (milk custard wrapped in syrup-drenched phyllo), as delicious as it is fun to pronounce. Wash it all down with a Blue Aegean (an ouzo daiquiri) and bask in the Balkan sun as it makes its way over Central Florida. Opa!
