Fresh sourdough: a primal aroma


The tangy aroma of fresh-baked sourdough bread -- it's a primal aroma that everyone should experience at least once in life. You'll find it at Panera Bread, a new bakery and cafe at Fairbanks and Park avenues in Winter Park (645-3939).

The ovens are fired up all day long, so any bagel, muffin or croissant is only a couple hours out of the baker's hands. Sourdough is the specialty, and it's the basis of many other recipes. Deli sandwiches are made to order in the $5 range.

You'll have some serious choices to make, from three-seed sourdough, pesto, olive and asiago cheese. Seasonal soups such as chicken-chili or potato-cream cheese can be ladled it into a sourdough bread bowl for $4.29.

The shop is built for people-watching and out-of-office working, too, with comfortable chairs, laptop ports and sofas.
