Fleet Farming comes to Orlando

This Sunday at 10 a.m. a swarm of cyclists will descend on Orlando. Their mission: to tend your gardens.

A lot of people want more local food options but are fed up with the lack of variety at local markets. Cheap local, organic produce isn't as readily available as you would think, so some Orlandoans have decided to get their hands dirty and try to be a part of a solution. Led by IDEAS For Us, an NGO and 501c3 nonprofit operating out of Winter Park, this effort is composed mostly by community partners and volunteers that help home owners set up home gardens, grow food in said gardens and then bring the produce to local markets. And all of this is done on bicycles - hence the name Fleet Farming.

The second phase of this project will be to collect compost from participating restaurants along their routes in order to close the food waste loop.
