Choices, we've got choices … In the spate of development cropping up downtown, office lunchers in a hurry have two tasteful new spots to try out.
• B&S Daily Market is a combination coffee stop, newsstand, convenience store and gift shop that would not be out of place in any urban center. I first went in lured by the promise of sandwiches from Lola's Gourmet to Go, but I found out you've got to be quick: They go fast. Still, not having to drive across town for some of Laurie Samulonis' fabulous cooking is worth setting an a.m. reminder. Aside from those goodies, B&S carries a little of everything: cold drinks; magazines and newspapers; Cuban fruit pops; sundries like Advil, gum, condoms and cough syrup; and fresh snacks like fruit salad and hummus (adorably labeled with "Hello, my name is" stickers). The house coffee is Volcanoes, a locally roasted bean with a lot of fans. Best of all, if the need for a last-minute office gift strikes, B&S carries a selection of hip objets. • Roho is a tiny but chic Cuban coffee bar with a minute menu. I enjoyed the pan con lechon (marinated pork, sweet onions and shoestring potatoes, pressed on slightly dry bread) and a beef empanada (juicy and spicier than I expected), but a co-worker found her Cuban sandwich "nothing special." Still, a mini-pastelito (80 cents) and a cortado brewed with beans roasted in-house — nice things to find right around the corner. (Roho Cuban Coffee Co., 120 N. Orange Ave., 407-835-4070)
