Family-run crepe restaurant is a sweet spot in Winter Park Village

If you're like me, and a thin, sweet crepe filled with Nutella and strawberries makes you a little misty, it's worth stopping by Déjà Vu Creperie in Winter Park Village. Family-owned and -run, it's a sweet spot in the middle of the sterile planned urban development. One of the owners, a self-taught patissière, makes the pastries in the front case ($3-$4). Some are gorgeous, like the glossy Parisian fruit tarts; some, like the éclairs, are not.

Crepes aren't just for sweet indulgence, though the strawberry, banana and Nutella crepe ($6.99) I enjoyed on Bastille Day this year was packed with filling and drizzled with a lot of chocolate sauce – and not a little bit of guilt. (I made myself feel healthier by opting for whole-wheat crepe batter.) Stop by for brunch and try one of the egg crepes, or for lunch don't miss the Montmartre ($8.59), filled with sliced ham, pesto and melted Swiss cheese, topped with dressed mesclun greens.

Food is solid, but service is spotty. More than one person at a time running the place might help improve it, as might a little personality in their staff – both times I visited were marred by a cold reception and (my pet peeve) no "thank you" as I left. Nonetheless, Déjà Vu is a novel stop for brunch or lunch, or for a sweet treat after a flick.
