A drive down Edgewater Drive on a Thursday evening might reveal a nice addition to local nightlife: the College Park Grower's Market (2440 Edgewater Drive; 649-3148).
Admire a Phalaenopsis at the Our Kids Orchids table, or pick up a jewel-like basket of organic strawberries from Adams Berry Farm. Homemade breads sit alongside bunches of locally grown delphiniums. There's music in the band shell, and you might run into a neighbor or two on an amiable stroll around Albert's Park. I arrived at 6:30 to be greeted by the aromas from John McKee's vegan hot-dog cart, and when I drove by at 8, the crowd was even larger. (Hint: turn on Rugby Avenue and park behind the stores.)
On April 19, the market is a special Earth Day celebration backed by Eco Store, which just turned 10. It's a great way to spend a Thursday night, and more important, offers something College Park has been sorely missing: community.
