A good if pricey year for wines

There's good news and bad news for lovers of Beaujolais Nouveau, the newly bottled wine that was released, as is tradition, last Thursday.

On the up side, according to Jason at Tim's Wine Market (1223 N. Orange Ave., 407-895-9463), weather conditions this past summer made for an exceptional Beaujolais season. "Anything you buy is going to be pretty good," he said, pointing out a bottle from Damien Dupeuble, whose family has been making wine since 1512, as a standout.

On the down side, by way of Todd Weinberger, down the block at Lake Ivanhoe Wine & Cigars (1407 N. Orange Ave., 407-447-5885), consumer demand is down this year, so prices are slightly higher and supplies are tight. "We ordered from one supplier and he never delivered," he says, but assures Nouveau fanatics that wine from Mommessin will be in the house.
