7 new restaurant openings, Kappo teams up with the Guesthouse, and more in local foodie news

The crew from Kappo, Konbini and the soon-to-open Kadence in Audubon Park are teaming up with the Guesthouse for a series of lunch omakase pop-ups every Saturday and Sunday from Sept. 3-25. Cost is $95 with an additional $50 for cocktail pairings.

Hanamizuki, the Japanese restaurant on I-Drive serving Kyoto-style fare, is opening Mondays from noon-8 p.m. for ramen only. They won't serve sushi, tempura, udon or teriyaki – just their lunch-menu ramens, as well as special off-menu ramens.

More good news for all you downtown dwellers: Outposts of Downtown Credo, the Pop Parlour and Winter Garden's Farmacy will make up the North Quarter Market, slated to open next month on the ground floor of the NORA Apartments ... A Marra Forni wood-burning oven capable of blistering Neapolitan-style pizzas at 800°F will be the star of Maestro Cucina Napoletana when it opens on South Park Avenue in Winter Park ... Another Beth's Burger Bar will open later this month in the Lake Cay Commons near Universal ... The District Eatery + Tap & Barrel, a "gastropub" in Sanford's historic district, will open in the early fall. The owners promise a menu that's "locally sourced and diverse" ... On the heels of opening in the Sand Lake Corners Plaza off John Young Parkway, House of Pho will open another location in the former Sankalp/Saffran space near the Florida Mall.

Watermelon will be the featured ingredient at a special five-course "Forkplay" dinner hosted by the Whiskey at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21. Cost is $75, with wine pairings an additional $25 ... Derek Peters, sous chef of Cress Restaurant in DeLand, is leaving to pursue something new. His last day will be Aug. 28. Chef-owner Hari Pulapaka says he'll continue to offer a tasting-menu-only experience ... Crafted Block & Brew in MetroWest teams up with Ballast Point Brewery Saturday, Aug. 27, for a four-course meal paired with five beers. Cost is $34.95 or $39.95 day of event ... Seito Sushi will hold its first annual sake dinner at sister resto Osprey Tavern Sunday, Aug. 28, at 6 p.m. Reservations for the six-course dinner are $100 ... The Great Irish Hooley returns Labor Day weekend (Sept. 2-5) to Raglan Road with nine Irish bands, a 90-minute live show, and food and beverage offerings prepared by celebrity chef Kevin Dundon.
