14 places to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Orlando

Well, we've got 14 and your excuse is Cinco de Mayo.  A curious thing about this holiday is that it;s not as popular in Mexico as it is here in the United States, despite its beginnings as an annual commemoration of the Mexican army's victory over France during the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Whatever history this day may have, we Americans believe this is a national holiday to be celebrated from dusk 'til dawn ... and all weekend. Here are some of the best places to celebrate Cinco in Orlando: Cinco de Mayo 2014 It's the 2nd annual Running of the Chihuahuas at Cocina 214! People with pet chihuahuas can enter them in a race starting at 11 a.m. Along with your $15 donation, take part in this two-day block party complete with DJs, their Patron ice luge and plenty of Don Julio tequila and Corona giveaways. When: 11 a.m. May 3 - 5 Venue: Cocina 214, 151 Welbourne Avenue E. Wall St. Block Party Is bull riding on your bucket list? Well, you can knock that one off your list of lifetime goals at Wall Street Plaza. There will also be a live Mariachi band. When: May 3 - 5 Venue: Wall Street Plaza Tres de Mayo For $17, feast on pork mole with Lagunitas cappuccino stout, black beans, pickled onion and cotija cheese and a warm churro for dessert. Reservations are recommended. When: 11:30 a.m. May 3 Venue: The Ravenous Pig Cinco de Mayo @ Will's Pub Free tacos AND drink specials? How could you resist? When: 4 p.m. May 5 Venue: Will's Pub, 1042 N. Mills Ave. Cinco de Mayo Celebration: Viva the Party There will be a live band, DJ and free entry before midnight for ladies 21 and up. When: 10:30 p.m. May 5 Venue: Made in Puerto Rico, 13605 S. Apopka Vineland Sunset "Cinco de Mayo" Concert Enjoy a live five-piece Latin band and dine on local food trucks for $5 a person. Bok Tower members get in free. When: 5 p.m. May 4 Venue: Bok Tower & Gardens, 1151 Tower Blvd., Lake Wales Cinco de Mayo Block Party & Concert  Drink specials, live music and more at your college kid's favorite destination near campus. When: 2 p.m. May 5 Venue: Knight Library & Dungeon Lounge, 11448 University Blvd. Scoot de Mayo Don Jefe's Tequila Parlour usually hosts a Sunday Scoot event where patrons go from bar-to-bar, taking in drink specials downtown, but Cinco de Mayo has its very own nameday for the occasion. When: 1 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. May 4 Venue: Starts at Don Jefe's Tequila Parlour Restaurant and ends at Chico's, 41 W. Church St.

Cross Traxx at Adobe Gila's See three bands, including Cross Traxx, Bad Mannerz and Gunnder Down, on Cinco de Mayo at Adobe Gila's. When: 3 - 6 p.m. May 5 Venue: Adobe Gila's Pointe Orlando, 9101 International Drive

Cinco de Mayo with The Gnarly Barley Redlight Redlight and The Gnarley Barley are partnering up to let you try their new brew, Fuego Marrón. When: 5 p.m. May 5 Venue: Redlight Redlight, 2810 Corrine Drive Cinco de Mayo Monday Enjoy live music from the Castillo Kids, HoB's own homemade nachos and drink specials. When: 3 - 6 p.m. May 5 Venue: House of Blues Orlando, 1490 East Lake Buena Vista Drive Cinco de Mayo Revenge of the Fifth Get your geek on inside the bar at A Comic Shop for a Star Wars-themed Cinco de Mayo celebration with the N64 Podracer tournament. A portion of the bar sales go to baby Olivia's chemo treatment. When: 6 p.m. - 12 a.m. May 5 Venue: The Geek Easy, inside A Comic Shop, 114 S. Semoran Blvd. Cinco Jalapeno Have you ever had jalapeños? Well, in all likelihood you have eaten them in tacos, but what about in a drink? East End Market is serving these spicy peppers in all sorts of dishes in celebration of Cinco de Mayo and, for $35, you can try them all. When: 6:30 - 8 p.m. May 2 Venue: East End Market, 3201 Corrine Drive Finnhenry's Pub Crawl Enjoy a complimentary drink at four different bars during Finnhenry's Pub Crawl in downtown Orlando. ($15 per person) When: 8 p.m. May 3 Venue: Starts at Finnhenry's, 39 N. Orange Ave. And for those who need a ride home after the festivities, call AAA for their free Tow to Go service May 2 - May 6.
