Video and Photos from Legoland Florida's Grand Opening

This past weekend, Central Florida witnessed an event that hadn't happened in over a decade. Legoland Florida, built in Winter Haven on the ashes of Cypress Gardens, threw open its doors to the public on October 15th, making it the first major new theme park to open in the region since 1998's Animal Kingdom and 1999's Islands of Adventure.

Florida's newest attraction takes a completely different approach from those older establishments -- in fact, it's a chip off a whole new block. Based on the best-selling European building toys, Legoland's second American theme park (the first is in California) is geared specifically for an under-13 audience, with plenty of interactivity-encouraging child-friendly distractions.

You can read my detailed take on who will -- and won't -- fall in love with Legoland in the next issue of the Orlando Weekly. In the meantime, here is a gallery of images from the media preview (held the day before the public grand opening) along with a pair of videos that will allow you to experience two of the park's signature attractions without leaving your couch.
