The entertainment-park company closed a deal for a 101-acre property on Thursday Oct. 26 for $27.5 million, according to the Orlando Business Journal.
The newly acquired space now allows Universal access to Sand Lake Road and adds to a major purchase the company made last year.
In February 2016, Universal purchased 475-acres of land next to their existing theme park along University Boulevard for $130 million. The property they purchased this year sits right above the one they bought last year.
"It’s the last large remaining site for industrial distribution in that area, plus it's in the tourist area. So it is a unique dual-purpose, dual-demand type of property in that area," Robert McEwan, vice president of CBRE, the real-estate company managing the deal, told the Orlando Business Journal.
Although Universal has not released any specific details about what it plans to do with the massive land, some speculate it will become a new theme park.
The new 576-acres of space would allow the company to more than double it's current theme-park holdings. Universal Studios currently operates on 108 acres and Islands of Adventures on 101 acres. The Volcano Bay attraction that opened in May takes up about 53 acres of land.
As we previously reported, plans for a Nintendo-themed park from Universal were leaked in June earlier this year. So maybe Mario and Princess Peach will be making their way to Orlando soon? Fingers crossed.
