UCF will screen award-winning documentary 'The Peacemaker'

The University of Central Florida will present a free screening of The Peacemaker (4 stars out of 5), an award-winning documentary about an influential peace negotiator, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the UCF Visual Arts Building Auditorium. Tickets are not required.

The film might just have been the weightiest documentary of this year’s Florida Film Festival, where it received just its second U.S. screening. It’s that rare doc that successfully blends a newsworthy subject (international peace negotiations) with an intimate portrait. In this case, that portrait is of the legendary but little-understood man behind those negotiations, Padraig O’Malley. Director James Demo’s film reflects on the past achievements of the 74-year-old O’Malley while examining with extraordinary intimacy what his life has become.

Demo will be in attendance for a Q&A session following the screening, which is co-presented by UCF Interdisciplinary Studies and the College of Undergraduate Studies.
