This is the last weekend to see "Painted Black" at Museum of Art DeLand
James Britton Gantt, “The Musicians,” gift of the artist to Thomas Hart Benton

On Wednesday we published our review of two shows currently on display at the Museum of Art DeLand. Today we heard from the museum that, due to circumstances beyond their control, the Surovek exhibition will close earlier than expected. From the museum's press release:

There is only one week left to view the incredible works in the exhibition Painted Black: The John H. Surovek Collection at Museum of Art - DeLand 100 N. Woodland Blvd. DeLand, FL 32720.

Due to circumstances beyond our control this exhibit will be closing Saturday, September 19 at 4 p.m. (one day earlier than previously scheduled.) ... The downtown galleries will be closed in preparation for the fall exhibition Two Points on a Plane: The Paintings of Chuck Hinman and for renovations in the downtown event space.

The exhibitions at 600 N. Woodland Blvd. (West African Tribal Art; Purvis Young: Art of Street & Fred Staloff's Visual Poetry) will remain on view until Sunday, October 4.

So if you're planning a DeLand road trip (like this one we outlined for you a few months ago – No. 69), now's the time.
