After the world is inevitably thrown into a nuclear holocaust where all life comes to an end, there will only be three things left on this fire crusted Earth; cockroaches, Cher, and Stitch’s Great Escape at the Magic Kingdom.

According to Touring Plans, Stitch is one of the least popular attractions ever at Walt Disney World, but somehow it just won’t die. Like a twisted version of Highlander, Stitch’s Great Escape stays in a limbo between life and death, just as we celebrate its death it comes back yet again.

The theater-in-the-round sensory based attraction shifted to a seasonal operating schedule earlier this year. Many thought that had changed to permanently closed when the attraction marquee was changed to announce a new meet-and-greet, but that’s not the case. Stitch began meeting guests in the queue area in early October. The new meet-and-greet used the pre-existing marquee with the ‘Great Escape’ section of the sign replaced with one that read ‘Alien Encounter Character Greeting,’ a nod to the ‘Alien Encounter’ attraction that Stitch replaced.

There have been rumors for years of a new VR-based attraction going into the space, despite Disney CEO Bob Iger stating that he has no interest in using VR headsets on attractions. Rumors point to a new attraction in the space by WDW’s 50th Anniversary in 2021 so many thought that the construction had already begun on gutting the attraction.

But it looks like Stitch will be here to terrorize unsuspecting children for another holiday season. It’s now confirmed that Stitch’s Great Escape will reopen daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM December 23, 2017, through January 6, 2018. The nearly two-week run may possibly be the final showing for the extremely unpopular attraction. So, if you love the smell of chili dogs being blown directly into your face then you’re in luck come December, but this might be your last chance to plan accordingly.

No word on if the Stitch’s Alien Encounter Character Greeting will remain open during this time as well.
