Short Film Friday: Cooking Dog and Hot for Teacher

Omelette Directed by: Madeline Sharafian Runtime: 2:30 http://maddiesharafian.blogspot.com/ (thanks Laura G. ) After a pretty rough week this is exactly the kind of short film I wanted to run into - charming, heartfelt, funny and, most importantly, short, which is not always the case with short films. Omelette is a personal little tale about a dog, his owner and saving and a diner in peril. http://vimeo.com/65107797

The Crush Directed by: Michael Creagh Runtime: 14:58 @MickCreagh In 2010, the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short film went to Luke Matheny for his excellent short God of Love. But in any other year, it might well have gone to another nominee that year, The Crush, a sweet Irish film about an 8 year old student named Ardle who has a crush on his teacher, Miss Purdy and goes about trying to marry her. It's a common tale to be sure, but Creagh turns the well-worn story on its head and delivers something endearing and well photographed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75Ctiw5dZWc

A Boy and His Atom Directed by: Susanne Baumann, Andreas Heinrich, Christopher Lutz, Ileana Rau Runtime: 1:35 IBM Research And lastly, in case you missed it when I posted it the other day, is A Boy and His Atom, a crazy little short that IBM's engineers completed by physically manipulating carbon atoms into a spirt-like display -- and then magnifying it 100 million times to be visible. I can't even believe something like this is possible. I can't get even claymation right. Even if you've already seen it, definitely check out the IBM Research link above to see videos about how they made it, what all of those ripples are about and how small an atom really is anyway. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PC3xW5hwGn4
