Orlando will get a taste of the “Internet Jesus” this Friday with the screening of the documentary Warren Ellis: Captured Ghosts. Ellis, a prolific cyberpunk writer, gained notoriety through his often-comical (pun intended) message boards and websites and his abrasive online persona. He’s known for his social commentary, and rightfully so – in our increasingly science fiction-esque Western world, Ellis’ power hungry Cobra Commander doesn’t seem too far from reality. In the film, director Patrick Meaney presents straightforward interviews with Ellis and his admirers (Patton Oswalt and Claudio Sanchez, among others), along with wacky asides including a scene involving puppets and a fake Joss Whedon movie trailer. Tonight’s event features a screening of the film, followed by a Q&A session with Meaney, so after loosening up from the available popcorn, beer and sangria, one can ask what it is to sit with an icon. – Leanna Robinson
