Thursday, April 19 – Snap! Building Projection 8:30 p.m.-midnight 130 S. Orange Ave. snaporlando.com free
Last year, someone involved with Snap Orlando had a brilliant idea: Use the art-deco facade of downtown’s historic Kress department store building, with its clean, vertical lines, formal windows and terra cotta flourishes, as an interactive canvas against which to display a massive 3-D photo projection featuring some of the best photo works Snap had to offer. It was dynamic and larger-than-life, and it was a great way to generate excitement about the four-day photo festival. This year, Snap is planning to do something similar, only this year the projection is taking place weeks before the Snap exhibition opens on May 3. Organizers tell us they planned it early to coincide with the International Downtown Association’s spring conference, which is being hosted by Orlando – good PR for the city and good PR for Snap, which will hopefully get a little out-of-town recognition for the clever concept and eye-catching execution. – Erin Sullivan
