Selection Reminder: Hope & Help's Headdress Ball tonight!

Saturday, September 17Headdress Ball

Even if it means a stumbling regret hangover the morning after, the year’s “most outrageous black-tie event” – an unseemly moniker given that its titular attraction basically involves an orchid bonanza growing from somebody’s cranium, not neckwear – always brings the goods in both charity and gossip. One time we got into a screaming match with a city commissioner who threatened to cut us! That was awesome. But even that sort of civic Belvedere belch wasn’t enough to overshadow the good works that Headdress organizers Hope & Help pull off in the community by servicing the needs of local HIV/AIDS sufferers or the 22 years that they’ve been bringing the well-dressed (and, well, heeled) notables to glamorous tablecloths for perfunctory white-picket winks and smiles. This year’s theme, “One Night Under the Big Top,” may invoke a circus-porn flourish in the region’s dirtier minds, but rest assured that everything will be done in good taste ... as long as you don’t drink like a commissioner. Wait, what? It’s sold out? No worries. We’ll be at the OMD show. – Billy Manes (6 p.m. at Hilton Orlando, 6001 Destination Parkway; sold out; 407-645-2577; headdressball.org)
