Recently, I was interviewed on a
Berlin-based podcast called the Psychonaut Sisters to discuss Vedic astrology. For nearly two hours, I answered multiple questions regarding love, life and the pursuit of cosmic enlightenment. I find it quite easy to speak on technical stuff regarding astrology; i.e. how compatibility works, what Jupiter represents, what the different signs mean, etc. However, I find it is often much harder to share my personal journey; even though I believe it is the best way for my listeners or readers to connect with astrology. A lens of heartfelt stories, emotions and experiences will always help me to relate over theory, concepts and data (especially if they’re non-believers in the art of celestial studies).
For this month's article, I kept buckling under the pressure. I’d write a personal story and immediately erase it. I found it difficult to personally speak on Pisces because my natal chart suggests it is one of my preferred love languages. It feels almost too personal to write about Pisces because I am high-key attracted to this energy and still have a lot to learn from it. However, it wasn’t until this article that I was hit with how little I actually knew about my own attraction to this sign and the hidden emotional reserves I would have to face. It’s sort of like being friends with someone for years, so you assume you know everything about this person but then one day you’re hit with a weird secret that makes them way cooler than you realized. Who knew Pisces was so damn enigmatic? That’s when I started to realized that I actually needed a better grasp on the archetype of pisces.
Represented by the symbol of two fish flowing in harmony, those with strong Pisces influence in their chart are natural born givers and healers. Also relating to the paradigm of Jesus, Pisces represents compassion. However, due to this, at times it can border on romanticizing "victim" and "savior" complexes. Regardless, these signs have care for everyone and everything. Romantic? Not entirely. Loving? Definitely. Venus, the planet of love, is exalted (or works best) in Pisces. This means that the energy of this sign wants to give and be loved. It’s far more open than a Venus in Scorpio or Cancer and somehow embraces all the collective elements. They generate a warm fiery love in ways that other water signs fall short, a grounded ease like the earth signs and a logical approach to emotions like the air signs. Yet, for a sign that naturally exudes so much balance, why have I been cramping up and unable to talk about my feelings?
Well, Pisces is the 12th sign, which means it is ruled by the 12th house. Since the 12th house holds all our subconscious fears, it can come with a hesitancy to actually verbally express our emotions. That means that people with strong Pisces influence (moon, sun, Venus, Mercury, etc) don’t open up easy. Visible shyness is actually a valid concern or fear of being rejected. Pisces will hide their emotions until it feels safe to come out. Perhaps they aren’t much different than their sisters Scorpio and Cancer; Pisces too can and will hold back as a form of self-preservation.
This sort of describes how I have been feeling recently. I need to feel safe in order to share my natal astrology. My fears became amplified upon expressing a personal story. I began taking my own Piscean energy too far. I began feeling stuck and couldn’t speak my truth due to fear of being criticized or, really, fear of rejection. The worst kind too; the rejection of being fully myself and not being accepted by another. All across the world, every human can somehow agree on one sentiment — it totally sucks when someone rejects your feelings (or rather does not return them) and this can drive even the most sane person crazy. Yet, Pisces energy (even in the wake of loss) still manages to say, “Relax it’s all going to work out.”
Leading up to March’s transits, I have been feeling unable to let go, relax and speak my heart. Sure, I have fears. In fact, we all have fears and Pisces is teaching us to stop holding onto our anxiety so strongly. As we move into this month with a sun, new moon and Venus in Pisces, I want to encourage all my readers to use this energy to find what has been holding you back from being vulnerable with others. Watery Pisces teaches us that fear kills more dreams than failure ever will. So, it’s simple really … relax, because everything will work out.
March Horoscope for Sun Signs:
Aries (March 21-April 19)
You will begin to feel the cool, caring waves of Pisces starting this month with a new moon, sun and retrograde Mercury. The rx Mercury may bring some challenges for you to express how you are feeling. Aries is a sign that can intellectualize emotions and use them as fuel. So, when Mercury goes retrograde in Pisces you may find yourself feeling a bit off when speaking to others. Don’t let that throw you, this is a great month to actually take some alone time. Usually, I advise Aries to get out and mingle, since you guys are known for lone-wolfing it most of the time. However, Pisces brings intuitive energy into your sun. I think this is a great time to go out in nature, detach from your phone and meditate. Find where the inner peace and love resides within you and when the full moon transits Libra (your polar sign) at the end of the month you will feel ready to engage back in balances and healthy relations.
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
Dear baby bulls, Pisces is transiting this month to help you bring out your love for your mother — Mother Earth that is! As a sign ruled by a connection to the natural world, Taurean energy is grounded and calm in lively, green and lush settings. With a sun in Pisces this month it is a great opportunity for you to visit large bodies of water (lakes, beaches, springs, etc.) and also give back to these bodies of life. Part of the archetype of Taurus can become fixated on material gains. Pisces is all about spiritualism and creativity. This month's transits offer you a chance to find happiness in connection to your outside world and not through something financial. Maybe even go for a hike this month but take only pictures and leave only memories. This month is a great chance for you to connect back to your grounded roots.
Gemini (May 21-June 20)
Talk about a picky pairing, with a Pisces sun, new moon and retrograde Mercury, you may find this month is all about indecision. As an air sign, you are often unsure because your mood is easily changeable. Pisces energy gives you a good opportunity this month to reevaluate your indecision. Sometimes, not making a decision is actually making a decision. Stagnation can often lead to further anxiety and a detachment from emotions. So, create the space this month to determine if when you can’t make up your mind how much of that emotional paralysis comes from a fear of rejection. There is no wrong decision you can ever make, just inevitable consequences that will all work out. Think of indecision as the fig tree from Sylvia Plath’s
The Bell Jar, “I saw myself sitting in the crotch of this fig tree, starving to death, just because I couldn't make up my mind which of the figs I would choose. I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest, and, as I sat there, unable to decide, the figs began to wrinkle and go black, and, one by one, they plopped to the ground at my feet."
Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Dear fellow water sign, your super soul sister Pisces is here this month to soothe your heart! Cancers are the crab, Pisces is the fish. For these signs, life’s a beach. You are both ruled by water and have highly intuitive and emotional natures. You guys are a perfect pairing, similar to the likes of peanut butter and jelly or Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper — you just emotionally understand each other! Which is why this month with a new moon and sun in Pisces you will feel safe in your shell. Pisces energetically provides the sympathetic space this month for you to feel nurtured and loved by the universe. This month is all about flow. Start setting intentions and embracing surrender. This month's cosmic transits suggest a letting-go attitude that may surprise you with all sorts of rewards once you release what is no longer serving you. With Mercury retrograde for the month except some hiccups in communication but what do you care anyway? This month is all about chilling out and tuning in.
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)
Oh, Leo, Leo, Leos … this month Pisces asks you for patience. You’re good friend Aries season is right around the corner and the sun will enter Aries on the spring equinox, March 20. However, with a new moon and sun transit in Pisces you may find you are encouraged to look at areas where you can find more compassion for others. Yes, you are both romantic signs but whereas Leo is all about grand gestures, Pisces is more about sympathy, tenderness and a cool, calming spirit. Leos are hot energy. At times, this month's Piscean cool energy can make you feel suppressed or frustrated. You’re a sign that believes love is earned, not just given. Yet, Pisces says, love all. It is a fantastic challenge to embrace areas this month where you can be more giving or open with others. It can be as simple as letting someone cut in front of you on the Turnpike. This giving back may be just what you need to remember how strong, passionate and beautiful your heart is. Don’t let Pisces fool you!
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)
Critical and logical, Virgo is the polar opposite and polar sign to Pisces. This means this season is all about shifting to a Venusian energy this month. You see, Venus is exalted (or its energy is expressed best) when in the sign of Pisces. Venus is the planet of love, beauty and romance. Venus is debilitated (or its energy is not expressed best) when in the sign of Virgo. Not because you guys are loving signs, quite the opposite! You guys are very loving, but only after a careful, critical and logical review of a potential mate has been completed. However, Pisces is the only water and emotional sign you understand and respect. Pisces is shy, it is reserved. It is a great month for you to open your heart and find connection. Pisces asks Virgo to deepen their relationship with not just others, but the world. Instead of putting everyone and everything into little boxes that help you understand them, Pisces teaches you collective consciousness. Yes, we are all the same and you may find this month you relate to the most unexpected people and circumstances.
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)
Hello my dear romantics, Pisces season is here to capture your heart! Venus, the ruler of Libra, is exalted (or its energy is expressed best) in Pisces. This means that you both share a fundamental connection to the planet of love and beauty. Libra’s crave fairness and balance, but they can often struggle with making up their minds, especially in matters of the heart. Should I stay or should I go? Classic Libra. Your polar energy is Aries, a strong, confident sign that always know what he wants and when he wants it. Which is why you tend to attract strong-headed partners to help balance your indecision. However, Pisces is tender and soft. They know what they want but they don’t push for it as strong as Aries. This is the lesson in this archetype this month for you. As Pisces transits the new moon early this month, you will learn that letting go and relaxing can be its own decision. It is all in the intention in which you express your love that matters. Pisces says, “Libra you’re beautiful, so don’t feel like you have to always make a final choice — just flow.”
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)
Alas, a calm presence is here to nurture our emotional state this month as the new moon begins its transit into Pisces. These signs literally have a deep love for each other, as they both are considered water signs. However, what really connects these energies is your abilities to feel deeply and also withhold those feelings. Scorpios are known for loving intensely and yet at the same time are known for seeming cold and detached. How could this bipolar description even be possible? If you read my
article from November, you will learn all about the fact that Scorpios like secrets. They are impossibly difficult to read or open until they feel safe to do so. This is where Pisces understands you the most. Scorpio rules the 8th house and has a direct energy connection to the 12th house (ruled by Pisces). It’s almost as if you both share a secret language. So what does that mean for this month? Well, with a new moon and sun in Pisces expect your intuition to get a power surge, as well as your dreams. This month would be ideal for divination work or dream analysis. You may find that you swim easily through this season emotionally but it is a great chance to explore darker areas of your subconscious you may otherwise deem too scary in other months.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)
Dear archers, this month the Pisces new moon and sun brings in an introverted energy that may keep you Netflix-and-chillin’! As a fire sign, Sagittarius is all about the optimistic “can-do, let’s go out and achieve” energy. Pisces says, “why? Just flow.” They’re opposites and since, well, water puts out fire, expect a bit of an energy drop this month. It will most likely affect you in your social dynamics when Mercury goes retrograde in the sign of Pisces. Expect to feel like you want to create space to find more inner communication and connection. All of this being a very positive thing for your own personal growth! When Venus enters Pisces you can find forgiveness and compassion in areas where resentment has been residing for others.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)
Dear goats, although often awkward in matters of the heart, Venus in Pisces is going to feel so, so good. You relate to the archetype of Pisces through a mutual respect and maturity that other signs can’t match. Capricorns admire Pisces for being more emotionally reserved than signs like Scorpio or Cancer. You relate intellectually and with a sense of trust. You provide security to Pisces and in return, Pisces helps you dream. In fact, when the new moon enters Pisces this month, it will be a great time to start recording your dreams. Capricorns can often have over-analytical minds. Writing down your dreams and seeking the meaning of them will help you get into deeper layers of your subconscious on an analytical level. Simply, as a very spiritual sign, Pisces will encourage you to seek inner wisdom in your own safe and systematic way.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
Expect to feel a bit like a fish out of water this month, as Pisces new moon, sun AND Venus will push your limits on how you express yourself. As a fun, carefree soul, you abhor the idea of controlling others or using manipulative tactics to get what you want. Which is why an Aquarius can seem detached from their emotions. However, in reality you just don’t want to use emotions as a tool against another. Piscean energy is a great motivator to help teach you how to be more direct and expressive about what you’re feeling, even if you can’t show it. In short, when Mercury goes retrograde for the month in the sign of Pisces, it will bring with it a hesitation to speak out. This type of stagnation in speech will push you to remember that you too are of a serious nature. Ruled by Saturn, don’t let others get it twisted. You are wise, deep and emotional. Don’t allow Pisces' direct expression of love intimidate you, but rather, inspire you.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
Welcome home to the deep end, my dear fishes. You have traveled quite a journey this year, finally returning home to the final sign of the year, Pisces. This month, as the spring equinox arrives and the year begins anew again in Aries, your center will start to become grounded again. We begin the month transiting a new moon, sun and retrograde Mercury in your sun sign. Venus will also transit your sign (becoming exalted or expressing its best energy) at the end of the month. You have a gift of intuition and healing. A compassion that reaches beyond what most other signs could comprehend. I ask this month that you use the experiences of the past year and the transits this month to give something back. However this physically manifests depends completely on you though. Maybe you call your mom and tell her you love her. Perhaps you assist an elderly person carrying groceries or compliment a complete stranger. It really doesn’t matter how it looks, it’s what your sign is about — giving. In short, this month reflects paying it forward. You teach the world how to care, so keep doing that. Just make sure this month that you honor yourself as much as well. You really deserve a pat on the back when the moon and Venus transits your sun sign — just be sure to share all the love.
