Orange County Commissioners will decide Tuesday whether they want to listen to Universal Orlando arguments against developer Joshua Wallack's Skyplex project, or give International Drive the tallest roller coaster in the world.

Before Thanksgiving, we wrote about how Universal and Skyplex, the $460 million planned development that would include the world's tallest roller coaster, have not been on best terms lately. A group affiliated with Universal has been sending out mailers against the project and made a website dedicated to stopping Skyplex called Save Our Orange County Community.

The group also launched a petition, which gathered 1,523 signatures, asking that Orange County “limit the height of the Skyplex tower to 300 feet based on the distance of the attraction from its neighboring communities, and the overwhelming amount of light pollution it would impose on those who call Dr. Phillips home.” Skyplex's petition to let it become a "symbol of Orlando" amassed 1,621 signatures.

Orange County Commissioner Victoria Siplin, whose district covers Skyplex, told the Orlando Sentinel she has received 1,690 emails and phone calls in favor of the project and 96 against. Mayor Teresa Jacobs' office has gotten about 300 messages, with 200 in opposition to the project.
