Last-minute shopping for Orlandoans: Orlando-made, Orlando-focused stuff you can buy in Orlando

A Twitter acquaintance asked me yesterday what to get for a work colleague who's new to Orlando, and it got me thinking about meta-Orlando shopping – like, where in Orlando to buy Orlando-made, Orlando-focused gifts to give to Orlandoans (new or old).

Of course my first suggestion was hard copies of Orlando Weekly's BITE and Annual Manual standalone special issues. BITE is our annual deep dive into Orlando's dining scene and Annual Manual is our take on a handbook for the city – I'm biased, of course, but I'd say they're full of essential Orlando knowledge. Both are published in the first half of the year, so you'd have to stop by our office to request copies, but we'd be glad to help you out. 

Next up: a beautiful map of Orlando neighborhoods (top). The giant illustration was created by Hillery Brooks and Morgan Walker for the Local Love photo event that benefited Rethink Homelessness earlier this year; now Mama's Sauce has printed a smaller version, perfect for gift giving. It's a five-color, 18-by-24-inch screenprint in a limited edition run of 500, and $1 of every print sold will be donated to Rethink Homelessness. Go here to purchase.

Nathan Selikoff's Local Notebooks (right) use a geographic data algorithm to create detailed maps of cities that are laser-etched onto the covers. Last, a classic Orlando holiday event: driving out past Bithlo to the post office in the tiny town of Christmas, Florida.
