The most confounding part of a breakup is that you have all of these feelings but the person you’re closest to, the one you’re used to confiding in, is the one who’s gone. So what do you do to fill that person-shaped hole? Most of us stumble forward awkwardly, stuffing it full of grief and anger. Jessica Earley, in a similar situation, gathered all of the awkwardness and the grief and the anger and used it as the raw material for HYPER-Bolic, an orchestrated explosion of dancers, puppets and video projections set to original music composed by Justin Tighe. “Is it all just melodrama, or is it how I really felt/feel? Am I making fun of myself, or am I revealing myself? I guess the real answer is, you have to come and see,” says Earley. While a lot of art – maybe all – is inspired by the same old topic of loving and losing, we expect Earley’s interpretation will be weird and exhilarating. – Jessica Bryce Young
