Ghostbusters is a classic part of Universal Studios here in Orlando.

Since being reinvented on the large screen, currently the Ghostbuster have no real presence in the local theme parks. The same can’t be said for other parks around the world. From a major new, blockbuster ride in Dubai to a major movie prop in Hollywood’s CityWalk, the retro franchise is the latest hot ticket in theme parks.

Universal Studios Hollywood had the famous Ecto-1 car from the movies stop by a few weeks ago just in time for the new movie’s nationwide release.

This fall, Ghostbusters will be the focus for the Ocean Park Halloween Festival. The Hong Kong park will use a Ghostbusters overlay over their classic haunted house attraction. Guests can use a ticket stub of Ghostbusters right now to receive a discount to the popular park. The Ghostbusters tie-ins are part of a larger strategy to take on their cross-town competition, Hong Kong Disneyland.

In Malaysia, there’s another Ghostbusters overlay happening at Sunway Lagoon’s Scream Park. A new interactive walk-through, similar to that of Universal Studios Hollywood’s Walking Dead attraction, pits guests against team members dressed as ghosts.

In New York City, a similar experience gives guests the sensation of being a Ghostbuster firsthand, but this time using virtual reality. At Madame Tussauds New York a new 2-part experience puts guests on a first-person virtual reality adventure presented by The Void, paired with a walk-through exhibit. The impressive experience was called the “the best model for VR entertainment over the next few years.”

The biggest investment in the now hot again franchise is in Dubai’s soon to open Motiongate park. There, Ghostbusters will have its own land with a live musical show, a family diner, a walk around Ghostbusters boy band, and an interactive shooter-style ride. Preview images of the new ride have received mostly good reactions from the fan community. It does have many parallels with an old concept proposed for Six Flags.

There have been rumors of a Ghostbusters revival here in Orlando, with Universal going so far as to survey guests on the idea of bringing back their original Ghostbusters live action show. So far there’s no real indication of any type of extended or permanent Ghostbusters presence heading to the theme parks in Orlando. The popular Madame Tussauds exhibit could potentially make its way to Orlando, but there have been no comments indicating such a move.
