Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge cancelled the Sunrise Safari in 2014, but they are now offering a similar tour; the
Sense of Africa Tour.
The new tour switches out a buffet at Animal Kingdom’s Pizzafari for one at the lodge’s Boma restaurant, and with this move, the price has increased from $75 to $249 per person.
The new tour allows guests to work alongside animal caretakers to hide treats in the red river hog exhibit. Guests will also be able to tour backstage animal areas to see the world-class facilities.
The 3.5-hour long tour, an hour longer than the previous tour, includes interactions with other resident animals such as the okapi and giraffes. Unlike the previous tour that was a mix of backstage areas at both the lodge and the theme park, the new tour is only at the hotel but it does include more detailed touring of the authentic decorations found throughout the resort.
Animal Kingdom Lodge is home to the largest collection of authentic African art outside of Africa.
Guests will also be able to venture onto the savannas at the lodge, giving them a view that typically only the animals themselves experience. The savannas also host an evening tour on select evenings.
The new tours kicked off earlier this month and are currently only offered on Tuesdays and Saturdays. They are open to all guests, no hotel stay or park admission ticket is required.
