Using “primitive” tools of spray paint, X-Acto knives, black ink pens and paints, Christopher “Tobar” Rodriguez prepares to showcase his latest works in this week’s Native at the XL Gallery. His art continues to draw inspiration from the world around him, but he promises a surprise in his subject matter, beyond the gas masks we’re used to seeing. But this won’t be the first time these pieces will be on display. Last month, Rodriguez hosted a month-long scavenger hunt of sorts, where fans of his art could find pieces hung across various venues in Central Florida by participating through social media. Fans can now enjoy Rodriguez’s art in a more traditional manner, and if you arrive early enough, you might find yourself among the 20 fortunate gallery-goers who claim collectible hair clip feathers created by the artist. – Drexler B.
