What’s on the inside matters, right? That’s the rule of thumb for most folks, at least on a personal level. But what about everyday devices like our phones – what’s inside of our most run-of-the-mill contraptions? Things Come Apart – the Smithsonian Institute’s exhibit that features the works of photographer and tinkerer Todd McLellan – attempts to answer that question with its cleverly displayed assortment of disassembled objects, from a smartphone to a baby grand piano to the tick, tick, ticking components of a grandfather clock. Think of it like this: It’s the deepest possible look at the most common and mundane.
