The 1998 film Shakespeare in Love upset the Oscars with seven wins, beating out the presumed favorite, Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan – along with that year’s other Elizabethan period piece starring Joseph Fiennes, Shekhar Kapur’s Elizabeth. The film – subsequently adapted for the stage by Lee Hall – is a romantic comedy fit for anyone who enjoys Shakespeare. It’s full of winks and nods to other plays and Elizabethan history. This run at Orlando Shakes is produced in rotation with Twelfth Night, opening Feb. 21. Catch them both to see John P. Keller switch-hit as Shakespeare in one and the gender-bending Olivia in the other.

7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7 | through March 25 | Orlando Shakespeare Theater, 812 E. Rollins St. | 407-447-1700 | | $25-$50
