Puerto Rican parranda takes over Kissimmee Walmart

Posted By on Wed, Dec 27, 2017 at 11:39 AM

Kissimmee shoppers were treated to a holiday surprise after a Puerto Rican parranda broke out at a local Walmart.

For the uninitiated, a parranda is the Puerto Rican version of Christmas caroling, except it's a lot louder. A group of people with instruments will go to a friend's house at night and surprise them by singing aguinaldos navideños (Christmas songs). The parranda grows bigger as it continues from house to house until dawn.

This past weekend, Facebook user El Principe captured an intense parranda celebration at the Walmart on West Vine Street in Kissimmee. The viral clip has more than 2.5 million views.

"I walked into the Walmart in Kissimmee and ran into a tremendous party," he said on Facebook. "Puerto Ricans will stage [a party] even on the moon."
