We are now officially entering the Heupel era at UCF.

This morning University of Central Florida Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Daniel J. White announced that Josh Heupel (pronounced hype-ill) will take over as the new head football coach.

Heupel, a former quarterback at Oklahoma in 2000, was the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Missouri for the past two seasons and will now be the 11th head coach in UCF history.

Coach Heupel will be formerly introduced by White and President John C. Hitt this afternoon at an introductory press conference at 2 p.m. at Spectrum Stadium.

"I'm extremely excited about the opportunity to represent UCF. What makes this opportunity so unique is the vision of the leadership from President John Hitt, Provost Dale Whitaker and Director of Athletics Danny White," said Heupel in a statement. "Their vision for this becoming one of the premier programs in the country makes this an exciting opportunity. That vision, the amazing campus, along with the recruiting base not only allows you to have immediate success but sustained success. I'm very excited to get a staff together and get to work with our wonderful student-athletes."

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the search for Heupel only took two weeks.
Similar to former UCF coach Scott Frost, Heupel is known for developing high-octane offenses. His 2017 Mizzou team is currently ranked No. 7 in the nation in total offense, averaging 511.5 yards per game, and are currently No. 10 in the nation in scoring at 39.3 points per game.

UCF also announced today that Florida's current interim head coach, Randy Shannon, will join the squad as defensive coordinator. "Randy is someone who I have always had a great deal of respect for throughout the years," Heupel said in a statement. "Seeing what he's been able to do with defenses, in addition to his ability to recruit this state, it's extremely special and will be invaluable to our staff."
