Welcome to Orlando Weekly's "Band of the Week." Every week, we highlight one of our favorite local bands. This week, we're pleased to bring you Volcanist.

Volcanist is playing their EP release show at Will's Pub on Nov. 18.

Just the facts:

When did the band form?
The band in its current form started in October, 2016.

Who's in the band?
Michael: guitar, vocals, samples; Danny: bass; Noah: drums

Currently available releases:

Describe your sound in five words:
Textured, modern, ambient, washy, folktronic

Five questions:

What has been your most memorable show so far?
We played our first house show at The Dancing Bones’ house earlier this year. It was a lot of fun to just hang out, talk to people between songs, and jam everything way out. We’d all like to play a house show again sometime in the future.

Which local band is your favorite one to play a show with?
Dearest (Tracy Farah). It was our first show with Danny on bass, back in April. Even though there were 5 very different acts on the bill that night, we felt Tracy’s sound paralleled ours extremely well. We played the closing set, and Tracy was one of the few people who stuck around to hear us play.

What description gets used for your band that you would most
like to correct people on? Why?
A lot of people hear the name and think Star Trek. I end up spelling the name or saying “like volcanoes” quite a bit.

What’s your favorite thing about being an Orlando band? What's your least favorite? Why?
Favorite: Orlando’s music scene is very diverse and accepting. We have met a lot of really cool people through both playing and attending local shows.
Least favorite: We’ve been losing some great venues over the past year, such as Spacebar and Red Lion Pub.

Any big news to share?
Our first EP, Nor’easter, is coming out November 18! It’ll be released on Spotify, iTunes, Bandcamp, and Soundcloud.
