Florida man catches escaped 6-foot Asian water lizard on golf course

God of the sea, slave to the chicken. Thanks to a few helpful neighbors and some tasty hunks of poultry, Poseidon, the 5-year-old Asian Water Lizard, has been captured.

As Naples Daily News reports, owner Kevin Hennings lured the 6-foot, 50-pound reptile back into his arms last Sunday, Nov. 1, after it had previously escaped its Golden Gates Estates enclosure. Poseidon was discovered along the banks of a large lake at TwinEagles Golf and Country Club. A concerned caller - of which there were many - alerted Hennings of the sighting.

"He was on the shoreline of a massive lake," Hennings told the Daily News. "And if he had gotten into that lake, it would've been game over."

Hennings had tried once before to recapture the creature by TwinEagles' lake, but a large crowd and a passing vehicle scared him back into the depths. This time, the 20-year-old Hennings came prepared, bringing several pieces of frozen chicken.

"I could tell he was interested," Hennings told the newspaper.

Poseidon now has a doctor's appointment to look forward to, although he appears to be healthy.

"Physically, he's 100 percent," Hennings told the Daily News. "It doesn't look like he missed a meal."
