More Q Than A, downtown’s premiere film series for cinema fiends, teams up with the Pauses’ two-night tribute to the year 1997 for this screening of David Lynch’s jazz-noir murder ballad mindfuck from that year. The film was criticized as kind of a dud when it was first released 20 years ago, but it’s developed a cult following in the years since thanks in part to its soundtrack that’s equal parts Angelo Badalamenti jazz freakouts and dark ’90s staples like Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins and Rammstein. Expect to hear a couple of selections performed live at the other part of the 1997 tribute Friday and Saturday night at Will’s Pub.

7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8 | The Gallery at Avalon Island, 39 S. Magnolia Ave. | avalongallery.org | $5-$7
